What can I record about a piece?
Quite a lot — a piece is your personal record, so you can track as much or as little as you like. The shared specs come from the catalog; everything below is yours.
Condition & physical state
- Grades for the model, the box, and how it runs — see How does condition grading work?
- Whether you have the box and the shipper, and their conditions — What's the difference between box condition and shipper condition?
- Weathered or custom-modified flags — What do "weathered" and "custom modifications" mean?
Where it is and how it's doing
- Status (Delivered, For Sale, On Loan, and more) — What do the piece statuses mean?
- Storage location so you can find it later.
- For locomotives, an odometer / chronometer reading — Odometer and chronometer: what are those?
Money & history
- Financials: what you paid, who you bought it from, replacement value, and sale/loan details. These are always private to you.
- Personal notes and up to three custom fields for anything we didn't think of.
Media
- Photos and documents (receipts, manuals) — see How many photos can I add to a piece? and Can I add receipts or manuals to a piece?
You don't have to fill any of it in — add what's useful to you and skip the rest.
