Starting officially with the 2021 ultra-rare locomotive of the year 2-6-4 Pacific, Lionel has released one locomotive, usually only offered through the retail stores or the lionelstore.com website, that is designated as the "Locomotive of the Year". In some rare cases there are two, like 2026 having the T-1 from the Big Book clearly labeled as such, but also having the Lionel Exclusive Big Boy from later in the year which might be an unofficial second.
Prior to 2021 there were similar locomotive in color scheme and positioning without the name, and I'll include those in there as well.
